The speaker of Turkish parliament, Ismail Kahraman, on Saturday described his country’s military incursion into the Syrian Kurdish territories as “jihad”, an Islamic definition for “holly war” mainly against non-believers.

“Look, we are now in Afrin. We are a big state. Without jihad, there can be no progressive, one cannot stand on their feet,” Kahraman said.

Turkey launched on 20th January a major military operation against Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the northern Syrian Canton of Afrin.

The parliament speaker also criticised the military presence of US forces in Syria and other countries in the region.
