The US Department of Defence is yet to decide on whether to include a special category for Peshmerga salaries in its 2019 budget, said a Pentagon official to refute the allegations claiming that Washington has stopped “budgeting for the Peshmerga salaries”.

Speaking to Kurdistan 24, Eric Pahon, a Pentagon spokesperson, said that the budget, as sent to the Congress, is merely a request for funding, and that it is “too early” for the Defence Department to decide on details.

He further explained that the decision on how much of the sum that the Congress will approve will go to the Iraqi Security Forces and how much will be specified for Peshmerga would be made later.

“Once the Congress approves the budget appropriation, then we’ll get into more specifics.”
